From blueprints to brilliance, every locomotive tells a story—driven by curiosity, powered by learning and guided by unwavering vision. An enriching educational trip to the Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), a production unit of Indian Railways located in Chittaranjan, West Bengal, was organized by Delhi Public School Asansol for the students of Classes IX to XII. Stepping beyond the confines of the classroom and guided by their teachers, the students witnessed the marvels of Indian engineering in motion. The journey began with an insightful tour of the vast industrial premises, where learners were acquainted with the evolution of locomotive technology—from the era of diesel engines to the advent of electric locomotives. Students observed the intricate unfolding through the essential phases of assembling, inspecting and final trials. The working of the pantograph, a vital component in electric locomotives captured the students’ keen attention. The visit provided rare glimpses into the complex interplay of machinery and precision, all under the vigilant guidance of engineers who strictly adhered to safety protocols, including the use of helmets and protective gear. This experience not only broadened the students’ understanding of applied science and the railway sector but also ignited a sense of awe and inspiration. The excursion to CLW serves as a striking illustration of how hands-on learning can bridge knowledge and curiosity in the most remarkable ways.
