An in-house workshop on Capacity Building Programme (CBP) in Elementary Science was conducted by Ms. Lipi Sakhuja and Ms. Sonia Dutta in Delhi Public School Asansol. The workshop aimed to enhance science teachers’ understanding of effective science teaching practices and classroom strategies. The session began with an engaging ice-breaking activity, where participants shared a scientific term beginning with the first letter of their name. This helped create a lively and collaborative atmosphere. The facilitators discussed the meaning and purpose of science, the importance of teaching science at the elementary level, and the major challenges faced by teachers in the classroom. They also highlighted the significance of setting clear learning objectives and outcomes for every lesson. A major focus of the workshop was on the application of Bloom’s Taxonomy in lesson planning and assessment. Teachers participated in a hands-on activity where they created a lesson plan and also prepared an assessment paper based on Bloom’s Taxonomy. Practical examples were provided using the topics “Photosynthesis” and “Area of a Rectangle” for Class 6, which helped participants understand how to design questions and activities across different cognitive levels. Overall, the workshop was highly interactive, informative, and beneficial. It provided teachers with valuable strategies to make science teaching more structured, engaging, and outcome-oriented.
