The morning of 9th November 2025 dawned with great anticipation and enthusiasm as the Late Sri Ramesh Prasad Goenka Memorial Trophy Under-15 Knockout T20 Cricket Tournament was inaugurated with splendour at the Asansol Sports Academy, organised in collaboration with the Lakshmi Ratan Shukla Bangla Sports Academy and supported by Delhi Public School, Asansol. The opening ceremony, held at 8:30 a.m., commenced with the hoisting of the flag, followed by a heartfelt tribute and homage to the founder and Late Sri Ramesh Prasad Goenka. The dignitaries offered floral tributes, honouring the legacy of a visionary whose dream continues to inspire young sportsmen. The event was graced by the presence of the honourable Principal of Delhi Public School, Asansol, Ms Vineeta Srivastava, Mr. Ishan Shukla, Head Coach, Salkia Rangers Association; Mr. Azim Baig, Head Coach, Asansol Sports Academy; Mr. Divyansh Choudhary, Coach, Asansol Sports Academy; Mr. Shubham Mondal, Scorer, CAB; Mr. Partho Ghosh and Mr. Gautam Goswami, Umpires; and the staff members of Delhi Public School, Asansol. In her address, the honourable Principal, Ms Vineeta Srivastava, the guiding light of DPS Asansol extended a warm welcome to all participating teams and parents, expressing heartfelt appreciation for their presence and support. She fondly recalled the vision of Late Sri Ramesh Prasad Goenka, who firmly believed that sports play a vital role in the all-round development of children and commended Mr. Pratik Goenka, the Pro Vice Chairman of DPS Asansol, a versatile personality for carrying forward his father’s ideals. She highlighted the academy’s excellent facilities, mentorship of Sri Lakshmi Ratan Shukla and the guidance of experts like Mr. Ishan Shukla and Mr. Azim Baig, who have trained stars like Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh. She urged young players to draw inspiration from the recent successes of Indian cricket teams and to approach every match with passion, discipline and the true spirit of sportsmanship. The tournament commenced with the inaugural match between Howrah Bijoy Sammilani and Salkia Friends Association. Salkia Friends Association won the toss and chose to field first. Displaying commendable skill, Howrah Bijoy Sammilani clinched victory by 37 runs whereas LRS BSA won by 9 wickets setting a spirited tone for the matches to follow. The grand opening not only celebrated the beginning of a promising tournament but also upheld the vision and values of Late Sri Ramesh Prasad Goenka—a tribute to his enduring legacy and his belief in the transformative power of sports.
